Job Posting – Postdoctoral Fellow in Near Field Cosmology and Galactic Archeology
01 Nov 2021Description: The University of Toronto invites applications for a postdoctoral research position with Prof. Ting Li and members of her group in the areas of near-field cosmology. The postdoc will lead and participate in observational or data-driven projects broadly relating to Milky Way’s stellar halo, nearby dwarf galaxies, and dark matter astrophysics, using photometric and/or spectroscopic data from large surveys or other telescope resources (see below). Researchers working on comparison between simulations and observations will also be considered.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to be members of SDSS-V, Dark Energy Survey (DES), Dark Energy Spectroscopic Experiment (DESI), Southern Stellar Stream Spectroscopic Survey (S5) and DECam Local Volume Exploration Survey (DELVE). Required qualifications: Applicants must have earned a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics or a related field at the time of appointment.
The nominal start date is Sept 1, 2022. Earlier or later start dates are negotiable depending on availability of the applicant. The initial appointment will be for two years, renewable for a third year upon satisfactory performance. The position comes with an annual starting salary of CAD $68,000 plus benefits, relocation assistance, and a research allowance.

The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow (pro-rated for those holding a partial appointment) recognizing that the needs of the employee’s research and training and the needs of the supervisor’s research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee’s duties and hours of work. Employment as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto is covered by the terms of the CUPE 3902 Unit 5 Collective Agreement.
