IAU NA-ROAD Women and Girls in Astronomy Program: "Under Northern Skies"
High-school workshops Community events Public engagement
The Women and Girls in Astronomy Program (WGAP) from the International Astronomical Union's North American Regional Office of Astronomy for Development (NA-ROAD) supports initiatives that expand access to astronomy education and outreach. As part of this program, Ella Meyer (Quantum Computing Outreach Coordinator at the University of British Columbia) and I spearheaded the first astronomy outreach workshops in the West Kootenays of British Columbia. We have brought career panels and coding workshops to 200+ local high-school students, along with a large stargazing, trivia, and Q&A astronomy event for 100+ members of the local community.
Our outreach event was even featured in the local newspaper, here! :)
Public Lectures
Public engagement Science communication
I regularly give public lectures and outreach presentations on astronomy and astrophysics for audiences ranging from elementary school students to community groups and the general public. My outreach activities include talks through the American Astronomical Society’s Shapley Lectureship Program, as well as astronomy presentations previously through the University of Toronto's AstroTours. Through these programs, I aim to make astronomy accessible and engaging by connecting current astrophysical research with interactive, public-facing science communication.

K–12 Classroom Visits
K–12 education School visits
I visit K–12 classrooms in rural and urban centres in British Columbia to run astronomy and physics lessons and activities. Topics have included stars and galaxies, coding and observational astronomy, women in STEM, pathways through science degrees and careers, and what a day in the life of an astornomer looks like.
