General Questions

Q1. What is the purpose of this page?

A1. This page is a list of the most frequently asked questions (hence the name FAQ) received by the instructors and TAs. Before sending us an e-mail with a question, you should check this FAQ page to see if the question has already been answered.

Q2. Can I use a fourth (or older) edition of the textbook Cosmic Perspectives?

The assigned readings and material you're expected to know come from the fifth edition, as do all references. For this reason, it is preferable to use the fifth edition. You may use the an older edition if you wish, but you are responsible for making sure you understand everything covered in class and in the text, whether it appears in your edition or not.

Q3. Is there a course ID for the Mastering Astronomy course?

A3. No, there is no course specific content, so you don't need a course ID.

Q4. I have found the textbook cheaper elsewhere. Why should I buy from the U of T?

A4. From U of T you get: access to on-line tutorials, an electronic version of the textbook, extra software, and a rebate for clickers. If you get this in the other deal or you don't want these extra features, then you can buy from elsewhere. Just ensure it is a FIFTH edition!

Q5. Where do I get clickers?

A5. Clickers are available from the U of T bookstore.

Q6. I have registered on ROSI but AST201 is not on my blackboard. Why not?

A6. You should automatically get ast201 on blackboard within 24 hours of it going through ROSI. If you have any problems, go to RCAT on the 4th floor of Robarts Library.

Q7. When is the midterm?

A7. The date of the midterm examination has not yet been announced.
