Today: Relationship between galaxies distance & speeds of recession is known a “HUBBLES LAW”. 2 assumption made on what Hubble Law show us as the universe as a whole:

The universe can be similar to the surface of an expanding balloon. - Imagine balloon with dots on it. - When balloon is blown, dots move away from other at rate proportional to distance between dots. Assume: Universe may have been compressed into a much smaller space in past.
