AST 1501Y Introduction to Research

Course Description: A seminar and research course which introduces students to current research topics being conducted by the faculty. Faculty members provide reading assignments in their research field, from which the students prepare oral presentations and participate in discussions with the faculty member with the course coordinator acting as moderator. In addition, each student chooses a topic and prepares a written review with a research proposal. This topic is then adopted as a direct research topic in the second half of the course and forms part of the student's MSc research project. One or more progress report on the research project is required during the second term. The course evaluation is based on both the oral presentations and written reports. The evaluation of the project progress report(s) is carried out by both the supervisor and the course coordinator.
