60 St. George Street, Room 1306, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5S 3H8
The library is located on the 13th floor of the McLennan Physical Labs on the St. George Campus. (map) Hours:
Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (all year)
The library was founded in 1935 along with the David Dunlap Observatory. Its primary mandate is to serve the research and reference needs of faculty and graduate students of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics and of the staff of CITA / ICAT (the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics). Graduate students and faculty with a valid U of T library card or an OULCS card may borrow monographs for a two week period. (Journals, observatory publications, star catalogues/atlases and reference material do NOT circulate.) Undergraduate students and members of the general public may use the library in a reference capacity only, however we suggest you check the Gerstein Science Information Centre first. The collection consists of approximately 25,000 volumes and is primarily devoted to astronomy and astrophysics material. It does include physics, mathematics and computer science materials of interest to astronomers and astrophysicists.
Photocopying is available at 10¢ per page. (Coins required. No card service.) Records are included in UTCat (and other UTL catalogues). In-house card/online catalogue is available. UTCat CODES: ASTRO, DUNO Staff at the UofT Astronomy and Astrophysics Library also mount webpages with information about searching the astronomy literature, using UofT electronic journals, women in astronomy, preprints and other topics.
